Day 15 St. Émilion

Left Rocamadour for St. Émilion today.  Learned a little bit about the saint and the town today.  Did a wine tour followed by a church tour.  The church in St. Émilion was not built with blocks of stone but entirely carved out of the limestone rock in the early 12th century.  Later a gigantic bell tower, 4500 tons was added between the 12th and 15th centuries.

Day 13 Rocamadour

Rocamadour is a small cliff top village in south central France. It is known for it complex of religious buildings.  This shrine area is said to have been founded by St. Amadour.

Day 12 Off to Bordeaux

Today we begin the next phase of our journey.  We are off to Bordeaux by train. Only problem is that when we arrive at the train station for our morning train to Bayonne then to Bordeaux we find that train workers are having rotating strikes and our first train to Bayonne is cancelled. We quickly get a taxi and head to Bayonne hoping to be in time for our train to Bordeaux.  It all works out and before we know it we are in Bordeaux.  Here are a few pictures from the day.

Day 11 St-Jean-Pied-de-Port

Short walk into St-Jean-Pied-de-Port this morning.  This is our last walking day and now we do some travel by train for a few more days. This town was where we started our first Camino 4 years ago. It is good to be back here reminiscing.   Here are a few pictures from our day.  We stopped in a few churches along the way.

Day 10 Mauléon-Licharre to Saint-Just Ibarre

29 km - a long and beautiful day
It was Laurie’s birthday so we celebrated her along the way.  We started in some rain but finished (9 hours) later in nice sunshine.  The day was full of long hard climbs but once we reached the top the views were stunning.
